A higher score means heavier animal use, weaker welfare governance, or research tilted further towards automation. In the table, L1 is Animal-use exposure · L2 is Governance capacity · L3 is AI amplification, and the composite is the mean of the three layer scores. The groups are k-means clusters of the 2022 cross-section on the three layer scores, with k = 2 chosen by the silhouette criterion. The groups state which countries resemble each other and state nothing further. The 2030 column is the ordinary least squares trend through 2010–2022 extended to 2030. Where the slope is not distinguishable from zero at the five per cent level the entry is marked flat, because in those countries the projection is the country's own average and carries no information about direction.
